In 1991, KOICA started cooperation programs by providing Cambodia with equipment. Having seen a rapidly increasing development cooperation between the two countries, KOICA set up an overseas office in Phnom Penh in 2003. Since then, it has played a leading role in bridging the people of the two countries with development programs such as projects, dispatch of volunteers, invitational trainings, and etc. KOICA is today one of the largest bilateral grant aid providers in Cambodia. The Republic of Korea, having achieved a dramatic turnaround from an aid recipient to one of the most giving countries, became a member of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 2011. Based on Korea’s own experience, KOICA tries to make contributions highly relevant to the current Cambodian context. KOICA mainly supports agriculture and rural development, infrastructure, education and health sectors in line with Korean Government’s ODA Policy called Country Partnership Strategy. KOICA will keep trying to provide supports corresponding to Cambodia’s new policy like Rectangular Strategy Ⅳ(2019-2023).
